Text book Information: Section 112 HEOA | Amends HEA Title I Part C (20 U.S.C 1015) by Adding Section 133
Effective: July 1, 2010. The HEOA encourages all involved parties to work together to identify ways to decrease the cost of books and supplies in order to ensure that students have access to affordable course materials. Book publishers must provide faculty or others selecting textbooks: The price at which the material would be made available to the campus bookstore. - The retail price at which books are made available to the public, if available. - The copyright dates of the three previous editions, if any. - Alternative formats available, if any, along with price information. - To the extend possible, institutions must disclose information about required textbooks and course materials, including the International Standard Book Number and price. Each institution is required to post this information on its Internet course schedule and publish a link to this information in the written course schedule. The law also encourages institutions to disseminate to students information about institutional programs that would help students save money on textbooks, such as rental programs, textbook exchange programs or buy-back programs.
