High School Programs

Orlando Tech offers state-of-the-art technical training to high school students in Orange County at little or no cost. Students can explore and get a “jump start” on their career while earning elective credits toward high school graduation. When you become a dual enrollment student with Orlando Tech, you can take advantage of the following program opportunities:

Fulltime Programs (Students spend all day at Orlando Tech)

  • Nursing Academy: Become a Practical Nurse by the end of high school! You have the opportunity to earn your required academic credits as well as complete practical nursing training while attending Orlando Tech your junior and senior year.
Program Information
  1. Students must enter the program at the beginning of their junior year.
  2. Students will graduate from their home high school
  3. Academic coursework will be completed online through Florida Virtual School during half of the school day.
  4. Nursing coursework will be comprise the other half of the school day.
  5. Clinical training will be Fridays at local medical facilities.
  6. Students will graduate with the requirements to take the Florida Board of Nursing Exam.

Program Requirements:

  1. Students must have a 3.0 gpa
  2. Students must pass the FCAT exam
  3. Acceptable attendance and discipline are required
  4. Students must pass a nursing entrance exam
  5. Students must provide their own transportation

Enrollment Process:

  1. Attend program orientation in Spring of Sophmore year.
  2. Complete Nursing Academy Application
  3. Complete nursing entrance exam
  4. Upon acceptance, inform high school of full-time dual enrollment status with Orlando Tech.

 


Part Time Programs (Students spend half day at Orlando Tech)

  • 3D Animation: Create 3-Dimensional graphics, video games, construct 3-D models. Explore exciting careers in 3-D Production Assisting, Modeling, Texture Art/Rigging and Animation Motion Capture.
  • Accounting Operations: Become part of the business world learning accounting principles such as double-entry accounting, financial statement preparation and payroll and tax accounting. Use these skills to further your education to get a great job or to start your own business.
  • Administrative Assistant: Join the business world as an assistant who uses technology to develop communication in corporate settings. Learn advanced computer software features including graphics, publishing, voice writing and customer service skills.
  • Culinary Operations: Master culinary skills and prepare to become a food preparation worker, cook, kitchen helper, baker and a restaurant manager. Learn everything you need to join the exciting restaurant industry in Central Florida.
  • Dental Assisting: Learn chair-side dental assisting functions; work in specialty dental offices. Explore a rewarding future in a dynamic profession by studying dental records management, anatomy, materials, infection control, operative procedures and customer service skills. - SENIORS ONLY
  • Digital Audio Production: Learn how to be an on-air talent by developing podcasts. Create your own beats for a song, edit in surround sound and create video game sound tracks.
  • Digital Video Production: Train to work in the Television Industry as a Studio Assistant. Learn set design, lighting techniques along with basic audio, video and special effects skills. Work with local media.
  • Early Childhood Education: Discover children and learning. Become a Child Care Assistant, a Child Care Teacher, while working with children in a Pre-K laboratory environment. Department of Children and Families mandated training is included.
  • Health Unit Coordinator: Become part of the expanding healthcare field by working with patients in a hospital environment as an HUC. Learn to perform indirect tasks necessary to staff a nursing unit. HUC is a stepping stone class/career to nursing or other related healthcare occupations. - SENIORS ONLY
  • Medical Administrative Specialist: Learn business computer software applications necessary to work in a medical office. Become proficient in medical scheduling, medical terminology and transcribing medical documents.
  • Medical Lab Assisting: Join the exciting field of medical laboratory technicians. You can become a nationally certified Phlebotomist and learn techniques used in medical laboratories. You must be 18 at the end of the school year to participate in the clinical (hands-on skills) setting. Medical Lab is a stepping stone class/career to nursing or other related health occupations. - SENIORS ONLY
  • Patient Care Assistant: Enter the medical field as a Nursing Assistant and a Home Health Aide. You will learn direct patient care techniques. Training includes clinical experience in a nursing home and hospital setting. This is an excellent pathway to Orlando Tech Practical Nursing.
  • Sewing Technology: Join the Fashion Industry by learning how to select and prepare material for construction. You will create designs using specialized computer equipment and prepare to work in costume departments of the entertainment world as well as retail businesses or start your own.
  • Video Game Design Technology: Become a creator of games! Become part of the rapidly emerging Digital Design industry. Learn basic animation techniques and integration of design technology, using simulation, digital audio and digital video elements to create your own, unique video games.
