Prepare students to work in health care setting performing skills related to indirect patient care.
Licensure/Certification
The program meets the Department of Health and HIV/AIDS education requirements and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) HIV/AIDS education requirements. Upon completion of this program, the student is eligible to take the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators certification examination.
Program Description
The program prepares the student to assist in overall patient care by performing the indirect patient care tasks necessary to expedite efficiently in the nursing unit. The HUC works under the direction of the nurse manager and works closely with the nurses and other members of the Health Care team. Instruction includes transcribing physician’s orders such as lab work, diagnostic tests, and tasks needed to prepare the patients chart for admission, discharge and transfers to surgery. The student will be able to identify , interpret and report deviations from normal sinus rhythm and operate the patient’ s heart monitors. (Dual enrollment option-seniors only)
